Many people say that learning a programming language is hard and complicated. However, I find it easy, fun and challenging. Computer programming is nothing but converting the logic we use to solve the problems in to computer understandable language.

Positive and logical mindset is the key to make it easy to learn a programming language. Always think that learning a programming language is simple, easy, and fun. Even if your friends claim that, it is hard and complicated, do not believe it.

Imagine we want to write a program to get something done by computer. First, we understand the requirements then figure out how we can achieve it (Requirement and Designing part). Then we write it in a programming language where both computer and you will understand (Write a Computer program in programming language). Finally we convert it to machine code that only computer can understand (Compile). Every time when we want the computer to perform the same task we run that program and provide information it required (Run the Program).

In Summery, try to understand the situation and what you exactly want the computer to do. Then break it in to smallest step you can think. This is the first step to do before start coding.

What is next? Start learning a programming language. You can find may hacks and tricks to learn a computer language here.

Let me start this topic with a conversation with my online friend (name withheld for personal reasons) :

Friend : Hi Govinda! Need some help bro

Me : Yes, what help do you need bro?

Friend : Actually, I am going broke. Dad’s not giving me enough money. I took a free co.cc domain and blogged for 2 days and applied for Adsense. But Adsense flatly refused my application. All my posts were original. What should I do?

Me : LOL Wait till I write a article on my site, then you will understand where you went wrong. You, like other new bloggers, have taken Adsense for granted.

Most of the bloggers (basically, even I) took to blogging just for Adsense. People make the mistake of linking money with Adsense. They think that all they need is a few posts (which they do by copy pasting or intelligent ones spin those articles). Day by day, the adsense policies are getting stricter. As of now, these are the compulsory requirements for getting Adsense approved on your website.

Buy a Top Level Domain :

Many new bloggers make this mistake. Moments after making the decision of blogging, they head over to blogspot and get a free blog. Some of them try taking co.cc domains and host it on a free hosting. My dear friend, you need to a bit more professional when you think of earning money. You strictly need a Told Level Domain. The best top level domain is “.com” domain. Just head over to some domain registrar and go get one for just about $9. You can even get coupon codes that give free domain for first year or domain for just $1 only. All you need is a bit of Google searching.

Age Of Website :

For your website to be qualified for Adsense, you need a good aged website. Your blog must be minimum 6 months old before you can apply for Adsense.

Write Original Content :

Who would like copied articles? Same is the case with Adsense. These guys have advanced checkers that can easily detect whether the articles are authentic or just some copy paste. Your site can only have content that agree to Google Adsense’s policy. Hacking tutorials or tricks are a strict no no. In a word, everything that you post should be LEGAL. Also, just having a few original articles won’t do the trick. You must have atleast 50-60 originals before you think of applying.

Having Some IMPORTANT Pages :

Your website must have important pages like Privacy Policy and Terms Of Use. Such things elevate the level of professionalism of your website and can impress the people at Google. Also, tend to AVOID popups like subscription boxes on the home page. This shows that you are making the website for only making profits and not sharing information.

Traffic :

Traffic is definitely a important criterion for getting Adsense. Adsense will never accept your site if you have very less traffic because they will stand at a loss. Low traffic website owners sometimes do illegal things like ‘click exchange’ which results in losses for both Adsense and the websites who advertise on Adsense. So you need to have a site that generates constant traffic.

Just make a small checklist and try to assess your website with the following points. I am sure you must be getting rejected because you don’t comply to one of the terms. Enjoy blogging!

Phishing is usually considered to be most effective when it’s combined with social engineering, the hacker term for human manipulation. One way phishing can be combined with social engineering is through the exploitation of redirect vulnerabilities. This article will demonstrate to you what redirect vulnerabilities are, how to spot them, and how they can be exploited.

So first things first. What is a redirect vulnerability? A redirect vulnerability is when a webpage uses a script to redirect you to somewhere (usually another page on the website), but they write that script in such a way that it allows a hacker to manipulate it to send you to an external page instead of an internal one. There are many types of redirect vulnerabilities, but we’ll be looking at the most basic type here for now. Example: let’s say we’re logging in to webpage that has this url:

Code:

http://www.example.com/login.php?dest=members/index.html

Let’s have a look at the url. It’s all looking pretty ordinary up to login.php, but look one step after that. See the dest=members/index.html? members/index.html is the path to the index page for logged in members, so you can determine that dest=members/index.html is a parameter that is being used by the login.phpscript to redirect users to the member index page after a successful login. Now if the creator of the login.php script was very security conscious, they’d make sure that the dest field could never point to a url that’s not an approved destination. However, if he didn’t know aboutredirect vulnerabilities, he would just write the script so that it would redirect the user to whatever address dest pointed to. In order to find which one we’re dealing with for this website, we can change the dest parameter and see how thescript responds. For instance:

Code:

http://www.example.com/login.php?dest=http://www.google.com

If this page is vulnerable to redirect vulnerabilities, this it should send us to google after we log in. If not, it will generate some sort of error condition and take you to a default page. So if we change the address as specified above, log in, and find ourselves looking at google instead of example.com, then we know it’s vulnerable toredirect vulnerabilities.

Now that you know what redirect vulnerabilities are, can you see how they can be applied to phishing? Let me create a scenario to give you an idea of how redirect vulnerabilities can be used to increase the effectiveness of phishing. Imagine yourself to be a student at a university. You have a school website with the address http://www.myschool.com, and you log in to all your school services (such as mail, course info, etc) through the url

Code:

www.sys.myschool.com/login.php?service=

where the service parameter points to the address of the service being accessed, as demonstrated in the following urls:

Code:

http://www.portal.myschool.com/login.php?service=sys/mail.php
or

http://www.portal.myschool.com/login.php?service=sys/courseInfo.php

Phishers have been targeting students of your school lately, so your system administrators have sent everyone an email telling them to check the url of every webpage they log into with their school account to make sure it’s an actual school page and not aphishing page. A hacker is aware of this, and realizing that this advice will give the you and the other students a false sense of security when you’re on pages that are actual school pages, set out looking for a way to get students to access hisphishing page from within the school login system itself. He sees the above urls and recognizes their potential to be vulnerable to redirect exploitation and creates a phishing page that looks exactly like your school’s page that is displayed to you when your login fails. Being a phishing page, it sends him all the login credentials of everyone who logs in through it. Once he knows that the login script is indeed vulnerable, he creates a link to his phishing page from the school login page, hoping that students will log in to the school through his link, get redirected to his fake page, enter their information again without realizing that they left the school page, and then become redirected back to their school page without even noticing that anything out of the ordinary had happened. He starts out with a link like this:

Code:

http://www.portal.myschool.com/login.php?service=http://badsite.com/fakePage.php

However, he realizes that some of the more observant students might see the external address in the url and be too wary to enter their information, so he changes his url into its hexidecimal representation, either by memory or using a tool like this one: http://secworm.net/showthread.php?tid=3, and achieves an ordinary-looking url like this one:

Code:

http://www.portal.myschool.com/login.php?service=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%62%61%64%73%69%74%65%2e%63%6f%6d%2f%66%61%6b%6 ?5%50%61%67%65%2e%70%68%70

This url gives no indication that it actually redirects students to the hacker’s phishing page, and since you see your school’s domain in the beginning, you and the students think nothing of it. The hacker then sends this link along with an email making the reader want to log in to the student database and steals all their passwords.

Hopefully this will help you understand the basics of redirect vulnerabilities and how they can be used to increase the effectiveness of phishing.

URL Shortening is a trend in today’s social media and web surfing. Big giants such as Google and YouTube have their own URL shorteners, too. It’s not just because the URL

shortening is a trend of the present, but also it’s important for tiny conversations like twitter or facebook status.

The trend, URL Shortening, was founded by Tinyurl.com at first and spread widely by twitter. Because you’re limited by how many characters you can use in your conversation, you need everything short but right. That’s why URL Shortening is important and popular at the same time.

Tinyurl.com has an option to preview the shortened link before you visit the site. If you include a word, preview, before the domain tinyurl.com, you will see where the link goes. But what about other shorteners?

Well, you can easily check the link before you have a go to any shortened URL by this firefox plugin. But sometimes you just don’t want to restart your firefox and want a quicker way to do this.

Here comes what exactly you need.

Sucuri has got a nice little web-based tool to let you see the destination of a shortened URL. Not only that, the tool will also check the destination URL in two different ways to find out if it’s safe for you to have a go to the site.

It’s advised to check the destination of a shortened link before you decide to have a visit.

Conclusion

I strongly recommend checking out the real URL behind a shortened one before you click on the link, even if one of your friends tweeted this. Twitter is often harmful for these kinds of shortened URLs that may cause damage to your PC or leave spyware program to your computer. As a result, checking the real URL is important for safe surfing. Also, for the sake of your computer’s safety, you need to make sure that the website you are about to visit is declared safe. Use the tool to know if it is.

We are in 2010 dose not mean that computers will stop giving problems. Even in 2010 technology is not that advance to fix their own problems. So someone need to troubleshoot problems as they arrive. Lets have a couple of simple hacks and tricks that can be used to fix any computer problem.

Most of us think that computers are perfect or suppose to be perfect and get frustrated when something goes wrong. That is wrong and computers can only do what you program it to do and if somethings small goes wrong it start giving problems. So you need to fix it.

People think that if it is related to computers then it is too complicated and you need to learn about it to fix it. But what you learn in school or university will not help much when it come to troubleshoot.

One more thing that if you are scared of things will go worse with your action then you might have difficulties trying out new things and troubleshooting.

Whats is the problem?

Before you start doing anything you need to identify that there is a problem. It is easy. If things dose not work as it was before or giving out error messages or warnings or if it dose not do what it suppose to do then there is a problem. Identifying the problem is the most important part of troubleshooting. That is the one most of us dose not pay much attention.

What cause the problem?

After identifying the problem then try to look for the reason for it. If there is any error message it will give most of the information you need. Most of the modern operating systems and programs have detailed error or warnings that tell what cause the problem.

Even if you get a error code you can always refer to its documentation or use Google to get the explanation and more details about the problem.

In some cases you will not find any error or warning message. For example if keyboard is not responding or CD/DVD ROM is not been detected or computer is too slow kind of scenarios will not leave any error messages. So try to collect as much information as possible.

What are the related software hardware components?
Which actions cause the error?

Above are two good questions that you should answer to get a idea about the problem. On top of that before you move to the next step try to get more information about the environment as well.

What Operating System (OS) are you using?
What is the OS Service Pack or Software Version?
What are the other programs that run in the background?
What are the last couples of changes you have done? (Upgrade/Installed new Software)

More related questions you try to answer related to your problem with make it easy to solve it as you get better unresting.

What is the solution to the problem?

As you gather more information about the computer or internet related problem will make it easy to look for a solution.

1. If you have solved a similar or exactly the same problem then the solutions for your problem will be to apply similar. That is base on your experience and with time you will gather more and more experience you will be able to troubleshoot tech problems pretty easily.

2. Even without any prior knowledge you can find a way to solve your tech problem.

You are not the first person to go through PROBLEM A.

Most of the cases (99% of time) you will notice that you are not the only one to face that problem or the first one to be. So you can always get help from others who have solved the problem. If you gone through blogs or forums related to your problem then you will notice how many people were gone through the same problem.

I use Google to find these forums and blogs which gives out step by step guides to solve tech problems. Great but how do you know whether it is going to work out. Small trick you need to do is to scan through the comments below the post or the conversations going on in the forums to see what others been saying. Because all the time you will not find the working solutions.

Another important fact when it comes to Googling is to use the appropriate search term.

1. Use the exact error message or code.

In this way you will be able to find the most appropriate solutions from Google. I will always try to copy and paste the exact error message in Google or in the documentations.

2. Use the exact error message or code with the software/OS/website/ name and version.

If the error message is generic you have to use the name of the software, application, OS or website with its version details with the error message to see the related discussion and solutions with Google.

3. Description of your problem with software/OS/website/ name and version

If there is no error message or code then you have to use a little description of the problem and all the other details related to the issue. That can be the operating system, software name or version details.

Always it is better to mix up the keywords or add and remove keywords to optimize the search result for your problem.

After going through the solutions and related comments and replies if you feel like that you cannot fix it or there is a high probability to make thing worst then always better to get someone else help. Even though you are not going to fix it by yourself knowing the problem and the solution is a great help when you try to look for help.

How to fix it?

Here comes the fun part. Fixing the problem. Until now what we did is to understand the problem and solutions to it. So now we need to apply it and get our problem solved.

1. First thing first. It is always better to backup your content and system as some times things can go wrong. If something can go wrong it will (Murphy’s law). Unless your operating system is crashed or files are corrupted you have a chance to back up all your content before you try troubleshooting. In most of the step by step guides they will instruct you to backup if what you are trying to do can cause any damage to the data.

When it comes to system back up System Restore comes in handy as you can roll back to previous state of you computer if your troubleshooting created further problems and if you feel like it is getting worst and worst.

2. Then take couple of deep breaths and follow the solution that you found out. It is really important to be patience even things are not going great. That helps to over come the problems.

3. After going through the instructions sometimes you might end up without solving the problem. In worst case it might brings up a new problem. Do not blame anyone as that is quite common with computers. In such situation you need to go back to first step and follow the steps to get it fix.

This is quite general way to solve problems but I have tried this to solve many problems as it comes. Always a positive mind set will help you to get through any difficult situation with your computer or related issues.
