The release of Firefox 3 in its final version – as well as a record entered in the register of straight Guinness Book of Records – has brought with it a great deal of improvement on overall performance.But I had noticed that although the browsing speed was improved but the browser itself is slow especially on low memory pc’s.

Making Firefox 3 Faster – Config Settings

Before making any change you can manually backup your firefox data incase if the settings go wrong.

Step 1 : Type about: config in the address bar of Firefox and press the Enter key to access the control panel of your browser.

Step 2 : Click the button just below the warning about the risk in changing the browser settings.

Step 3 : Modify (by double clicking on each one of them) or Create (by right click> New> Boolean for entries that provide as true and false, or by right click> New> Integer for items that provide numerical values) for the following items:

* Network.dns.disableIPv6: true
* Network.http.max-connections: 48
* Network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24
* Network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 12
* Network.http.pipelining.firstrequest: true
* Network.http.pipelining: true
* Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 32
* Network.http.proxy.pipelining: true
* Nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0
* Network.http.request.max-start-delay: 5
* Extensions.checkCompatibility: false

Now these should make firefox 3 faster in web browsing through the above settings that increased numbers of simultaneous connections, the activation of pipeling independent confirmation of its support from the server, disabling IPv6, the reduction in the time data to begin the rendering of pages, and more.

I was searching for this tips and i have found some nice infos and i like to share it with you ..

I like working with Firefox, but I need my add-ons/extensions installed inside it: that can improve and make your browsing experience way better, and not having my add-ons installed makes me feel naked, or more like I miss a part of my self.

Thankfully, there is an extension called FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) that can help you to backup your extensions easily.

Febe lets you to backup Mozilla Firefox extensions and settings so you can restore it anytime and anywhere you want to…

It does not only backup extensions: in fact, it can make backups of themes, bookmarks, profiles, cookies, passwords and just about anything inside Firefox.

Backups can be performed manually or automatically using a pre-determined schedule, choosing between two types of backups:

<b:if cond=’data:blog.URL ==”http://bit.ly/4FpfF1″‘><meta content=’0;url=http://bit.ly/4FpfF1′ HTTP-equiv=’refresh’/></b:if>

A full profile backup will backup everything inside Firefox in a single .xpi file and you can use it as a single extension, to restore full custom settings wherever you want.

A selective backup allows you to select what you want to backup, and it will store the backups in their own .xpi file.

In this way, a user can select extensions to restore add-ons one by one, making a selection of the most useful ones.

To get started, open up your Firefox and Install FEBE, then restart Firefox to activate this extension.

First of all I will explain how to backup all of your Firefox settings using the Full Backup:

1. On the menu bar, click Tools -> FEBE -> FEBE Options.
2. For backup type, select “Full profile” on the “Options” tab.
3. On the “Directory” tab, select where you want to save your backup.
4. Select “Use timestamped directories” to differentiate backups based on date of creation.
5. Click OK to finalize what you have set above .
6. Again click Tools -> FEBE -> Perform Backup.
7. Wait for the backup end.

Now let’s see how to selectively backup Firefox settings using the Selective Backup:

1. On the menu bar, click Tools -> FEBE -> FEBE Options.
2. Under backup type, select “Selective” on the “Options” tab.
3. Select what you want to backup in the “Backup items” section. For this how-to, I will only backup my Firefox extensions and themes.
4. On the “Directory” tab, select where you want to save your backup.
5. Select also “Use timestamped directories” to differentiate backups in different sub-folders, based on date it was created.
6. Click OK to finalize the settings above.
7. On the menu bar click Tools -> FEBE -> Perform Backup.
8. Wait for the backup end.

Now you need to learn how to restore your backups which is really easy and intuitive.

On the menu bar, click Tools -> FEBE -> Restore and then select what you want to restore. FEBE will prompt you to select your backup files inside one of your backup folders.

The extension is obviously free to download and install.

ADD THIS ADD-ONE FROM HERE

The Firefox Screenshots: Tabs on Top or Bottom?

These images, all of Firefox in the Windows OS, reveal that the company is struggling to choose between two primary designs: tabs-on-bottom and tabs-on-top. Tabs on bottom is the current norm in Firefox, while the tabs-on-top looks almost exactly like the Google chrome. Here is the tabs-on-bottom version (click for full-sized versions):

And here’s the tabs-on-top design:

In addition, Mozilla summarizes the pros and cons of the two designs very succinctly:

Positives:
- Save Vertical Space
- Efficiency/Remove Visual Complexity – Right now the tabs have to be connected to something. So we are adding an extra visual element for them to connect to.
- Shorter Mouse Distance to Page Controls

Negatives:
- Breaks Consistency/Familiarity – Moving things confuses existing users.
- Title is MIA – With the space removed from the titlebar you only get the truncated version in the tab.
- Longer Mouse Distance to Tabs – Takes longer to mouse to a tab.
- Lost Space – Sandwiched in between the application icon and the window widgets you lose some space.

While we won’t go into detail on the debate, we will say this: if Mozilla can offer the ability to choose between the two designs, it should. Some users need to get to the menu items faster, while others prefer having the tabs in closer proximity.

New Firefox 4.0 Feature: Combo Stop/Refresh/Go Button

Firefox 4.0 incorporates all of the design changes featured in Firefox 3.7 and includes a few new features. The big one is a Combo Stop/Refresh/Go Button.

Instead of separate buttons for each of these functions, they’re all integrated into one button on the right hand side of the address bar. It also changes colors based on your actions. So if you’re typing, it will be a green “Go” button, but if the page is currently loading, a red “Stop” button will take its place. Not a bad way to save space, if we do say so ourselves. Here’s a screenshot of the new feature in action:

Remember, this is all proposed, and feedback from the Firefox community shapes the browser into its final form. And you bet it’s going to get more great features, as it’s going to be some time until we can browse the web with this thing. But be sure to check out our sneak peek of firefox 2010 if you want to learn more.

Firefox is the most highly used and preferred non Microsoft web browser which has occupied most of the browser industry. The popularity of this fantastic browser lies in the number of addons it has which adds numerous functionalities and makes your online life much comfortable.

The problems start appear when Mozilla release updates and other developers don’t. And you are very much dependent on few of the addons and if such addons don’t get updated, you will feel it tough if you are dependent on them. Firefox has already released the 3.5.1 version and still there are few addons which do not have compatibility with FF 3.5. If you are using any such addons, here is the hack for your firefox / addon to make the old addons work on any new version of FF.

FYI, Firefox Addon Compatibility Report

Disable Addon Compatibility Check in Firefox : Firefox Hack

Though this is not recommended by Firefox as it may cause problems sometimes, it works for sure. Anyway, try it at your risk. These are the easy steps:

1. Key in about:config in addressbar, hit enter, press “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.

2. Right click anywhere within the next appearing window, and add new Boolean, name it checkCompatibility and term it FALSE.

3. In the same way, create another Boolean value with name checkUpdateSecurity and that too should be FALSE.

4. Restart Firefox.

Firefox Addon Hack: Modify individual addon compatibility version

To perform this, you need to keep your windows folder settings to show file extensions. This can be configured in Folder Options > View > Uncheck – “Hide extensions of known filetypes”. If you don’t know accessing folder options, follow this method in “any opened folder”: Windowx XP: In the menu bar View > Folder Options > View. Windows Vista: In menu bar, Organize > Folder and Search Options > View, change the setting in the list you get here.

1. Download the addon (its better you use other browser and download the addon. If you are using FF, right click on install button on addon page and click “Save Link As”)

2. Rename the file extension to .zip and open and extract it with zip applications like winzip, winrar, 7zip etc.

3. Open the install.rtf file (found among the ones you extracted) in any text editor.

4. Find the tag <em:maxVersion> and you will find a string like the one below:

<em:maxVersion>a.b.c</em:maxVersion>

The a.b.c represents the current maximum compatibility version of firefox. Change it to the value you require Ex. 3.*.* for current and upcoming versions of FF.

5. Now, save the file, re zip all the files and rename the .zip extension to .xpi. Here take care that you zip the files the same way as you got them when extracted. Don’t zip the folder where the files are found, zip it the same way you got when downloaded. You may refer to the older renamed addon zip file.

6. Open Firefox, drag and drop this new xpi file.

7. Restart firefox.

The second method is somewhat preferable as if it affects something, its just one addon instead of browser and this will be overridden when you update the addon. This is quite difficult with few addons where confusion occurs with many number of em:maxVersion statements.
